Job Description

Job Summary
Position is responsible for aligning policies and procedures with the ongoing needs within the Diocese. Support
the Principals, pastors, employees of the Diocese in HR related areas.

Recruiting and Hiring
Be available to create job descriptions, do the hiring and recruiting processes, provide
interviewing support on short notice, create sourcing of applicants, draft offer letters, post on
external sites and locations, and provide compensation recommendations.

Employee Relations
Collaborate with clergy and lay leaders to ensure HR supports ministry and operations.
Provide leadership and direction within the Diocese on all aspects of HR policies and
procedures. Support the organization’s goals and priorities; create solutions that are simple,
aligned with church teachings and helpful to internal customers.
Provide support, if a Plan of Improvement, is needed. Help create success measures that
are followed up on. Support parish/school, on-site, if needed, with training, documentation,
discipline or difficult separations from the organization in a lawful, just, compassionate and
respectful manner.
Is able to be a gracious guest at a parish location to evaluate HR audit areas: 1-9
compliance, 1099 verification, payroll classifications,(exempt/non-exempt) retirement
eligibility/enrollment, 401k compliance/eligibility, and provide training as needed.

Administrative Support
Update and communicate current handbook information. Align all policies with United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops guidelines and diocesan values.
Assist the Finance Office with Benefit Plan support and payroll/status changes.
Support the Office of the Protection of Minors and Young People, ensuring policy compliance.
Maintain lay employee files, share policies, and update website. Support the Chancery staff
as needed.

Compliance & Risk Management
Manage federal/state laws while navigating religious exemptions.
Oversee safe environment programs, training and compliance for child protection and
vulnerable adults.
Ensure proper documentation, background checks, and certifications.
Compensation & Benefits
Consult, answer questions, do research related to compensation recommendations, applicant
market trends, benefit expectations, within mission-type organizations. Support employees
related to benefits programs, eligibility, etc.

Position Qualifications:
 College degree preferred, and/or 5-10 years related work experience(HR, Employment related)
 Prefer ability to manage/consult multiple sites/parish
 Prefer HR Certification (SHRM)

This role requires being an approachable, kind, team player, ability to develop and maintain good relationships
with coworkers and interview subjects. Is able to see the broader picture and can work for the good of the
department and Diocese as a whole. Supportive of the teachings of the Catholic church. Can demonstrate that
we are at our best when we support our parishes, schools, organizations and other faith-based activities.
Is Respectful. Can treat everyone with respect, regardless of position or rank, can flex easily, shows equity in
relationships, can recognize non-verbal cues and adjusts with ease. Can share differing perspectives in a concise
manner and work towards results effectively. Can work in a busy environment, managing interruptions,
competing priorities, and lots of requests for service.

Is coachable. Receives feedback or follow up with ease. Is open to continuous learning and can show
professional growth consistently. Avoids the use of passive aggressive behaviors. Can communicate obstacles
and knows when and how to elevate or when there are boundary issues.
Practicing Catholic is good standing with the Church.
Demonstrated knowledge of HR laws and compliance practices for employment.
Positive communication skills.
Ability to travel and provide needed training.
